Daily maxima, not averages or daily unique players. Periods use UTC; the last source period is incomplete. Historical zero-filled samples are ambiguous and shown as gaps. Values are approximate tiers. Bars at date-range edges may represent a partly visible full source period; the listed dates and tooltip identify the complete aggregation interval.

N New label observed
The recorded Poki feed provides new-label observations only; hot and staff-picked observations are not available from this source.
Markers are positive daily observations from the portal API, not entry or exit dates or continuous placement. Hot does not prove a popular-list position; staff-picked does not prove homepage placement. These observations do not establish a cause for popularity changes.

About Chess Pro
How to play Chess Pro
Your goal is to checkmate your opponent by attacking their king so they can't escape the attack. Take turns moving one piece at a time and taking your opponent's pieces while keeping your own king safe.
Select a piece to see its available moves, then choose where to place it. Before capturing an opponent's piece, check what they could take in return. Taking a pawn won't help much if the move leaves your queen open to attack!
Look at your opponent's last move before choosing your next one. If they've tried to attack your queen, check how to protect it before continuing your own attack.
Choose your opponent
Computer opponents: Play against 10 bots with ratings from 400 to 2200. Lower ratings mean easier opponents.
Challenge a friend: Choose "Play a friend" and take turns on the same device. Switch the clock off to give yourselves time to think, or choose a timed match. You can also set the board to rotate after each move so both players see their pieces from their own side.
Chess Pro features
Chess puzzles: Practice finding moves that win pieces or lead to checkmate without playing a full match. Choose a puzzle difficulty, or select "Around my rating" for puzzles matched to your current level. If you're stuck, use a hint or view the solution to see the moves you missed.
The daily chess puzzle: Everyone gets the same puzzle each day, and faster solutions earn more points. The score starts at 1,000 and drops as the clock runs. Each wrong move adds 10 seconds, so guessing repeatedly costs you time.
Review your game: Step through a completed match using the review arrows. Compare both players' accuracy scores and look for moves marked Mistake or Blunder, meaning a serious mistake.
Stars and achievements: Earn up to 3 stars against each bot by winning, winning as Black and winning without using Undo. The achievements menu tracks 33 additional goals, including your first victory and promoting a pawn.
Customizable boards and pieces: Explore different piece sets and board colors in the Themes menu. Unlock new sets by winning games against the bots.

Try Master Chess for more chess matches against the computer or a friend in 2 player games. Choose a difficulty and practice planning attacks while protecting your pieces.
If you prefer chess puzzles, try Chessformer. Your pieces use familiar chess moves, but they fall after moving. Work out where they'll land and stack them to reach the opposing king.
